New Ruger Carry Revolver--Strange looking
Radical Ruger revolver - or is it?
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 Filed in: Revolvers, Shooting industry Yesterday I received an email from a reader, directing me to this thread at The Firing Line. Interesting! Today, Jeff Quinn at Gunblast released his (limited) review of the new Ruger LCR. Intriguing! http://www.grantcunningham.com/blog_...entry482_1.jpg This is certainly a radical departure from the traditional design and fabrication of the double-action revolver. The use of polymer is all the rage in the self-shucker world, but this is a first for a wheelgun. I'm excited that someone is taking renewed interest in the revolver, and attempting to bring the technology "up to date" - though I'm left with an odd feeling. Part of it is the realization that, while the technology is new, the concept isn't. It's just another lightweight, 5-shot, .38 Special revolver, the ballistic equivalent of a 4-door economy car; I'd be more impressed if they'd done the same thing in a 6-shot package. As it is, the design leaves me at once excited to get my hands on one, but at the same time bored with a gun I haven't even touched! Perhaps I'm jaded. Or maybe just a curmudgeon. |

I am a sucker for wheel guns.
Plastic just doesn't do em justice. I got used to the plastic autos - even learned to appreciate them. But a revolver should be made in blued steel. ST |

Re: New Ruger Carry Revolver--Strange looking
Cool revolver. I like the LCR too. I have always liked Ruger revolvers. In fact, just bought this model in 6 1/2" this week.

Re: New Ruger Carry Revolver--Strange looking
If I want a revolver, I'll stick with the J-Frame.
Ruger's SR9 & LCP are pretty nice, though. |

Re: New Ruger Carry Revolver--Strange looking
Ive always wanted a non fluted cylinder someone like the ruger pictured above but in a double action not a single.
Anyone know if Ruger makes a Double Action 44 Magnum revolver with a unfluted Cylinder ? IM familiar with the SW 629 Classic Hunter but have heard bad things about the strength of the frame and ability to handle hot loads. |

You can get into trouble when you roll your own to hot. Same with a Ruger but the line of to hot moved because they are stronger. For anything you buy you can shoot smiths without worry. Back to the fluted thing--I think they are sexy with flutes--they just look better. I wouldn't get one without flutes. Its a looks thing for me. E-A |
Re: New Ruger Carry Revolver--Strange looking
I don't know that Ruger makes non fluted in a 44 mag. Super Redhawk in 454 and 45, but haven't seen 44.
